As the head of the Entertainment, World and Life desks at TheNewsroom, I can definitely say that I get to look at and analyze some of the most interesting and moving news in TheNewsroom. I get the Britney-with-no-underwear scandals; Japanese man buys 100 masturbatory dolls video clip, and the tragic updates from the war-torn Darfur region of Sudan. I enjoy the variety.
I joined Voxant a year ago when the company was just starting out. I was fresh out of college from the University of Maryland at College Park, so I can definitely say that we’ve both grown considerably since then.
I’ve written for The Diamondback, UMD’s main campus newspaper, and The Eclipse, the campus black student newspaper. I also worked as an intern for The Student Press Law Center, absorbing and learning all I could about First Amendment rights and political cartoons. (Those Mohammed cartoons were a big deal at a lot of American college newspapers.)
I was born and raised in Maryland but my ethnic heritage is Portuguese-African. I speak three languages, English, Portuguese and Spanish, but really it’s more like two and a half, because although I can order a burrito at Chipotle in Spanish competently, maintaining a complex conversation in it is a bit more difficult. But I love languages and I really want to learn French next.
